Young Five Preschool Program

The preschool program is for children between the ages of 2 years 10 months to 4 years.  In our preschool program, the activities of the day focus on the theme.

The children are introduced to Learning Centers that encompass a wide range of activities and provide opportunities for hands-on reinforcement of concepts and skills that have been introduced in a whole-group setting.

The curriculum in our preschool program will focus on the following experiences

Morning

A typical day begins at 9:00 am with the opening circle during which time the children hear a story, discuss the month, day and date. They will also practice the song of the week, finger play or poem. The morning continues with time for creative movement, snacks, learning centers, outdoor recess and lunch. The morning activities are completed by 1:00 pm and some children may leave, however the majority of the children remain all day.

After Lunch

The morning is followed by rest time or quiet time, which is from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm. At this time children may sleep, listen to music, or read. After 45 minutes of rest time they may play a table activity.

Afternoon

The afternoon includes a snack, learning centers, outdoor recess or group game and ending circle. Learning centers make up the largest portion of the daily schedule in the classroom. Learning centers provide an opportunity for your child to develop hands-on reinforcement of concepts and skills that have been introduced in a whole-group setting. Young children learn best through active exploration and concrete experience. The experiences focused on include literacy, art, blocks, sensory (sand and water), music and movement, discovery (math and science), dramatic play, games (small and large groups), cooking, and gymnastics.
